Manukau Rovers boasts a rich rugby history that dates back to 1885. The period of 1960 to 1990 boasted a 30 year stronghold for the club where 1968 and 1973 saw the club become Auckland Champions by winning the Gallaher Shield and a parade of players represented Manukau Rovers with their representative honours for Auckland, North Island, New Zealand Maori and the All Blacks.
Since 1990 Manukau Rovers has adapted to the multicultural dynamic of Mangere and today hosts more than 650 players each year from Under 6 to Presidents Grade. Other Members include the Old Boys Club and the Sunday Club who continue to contribute our club's history, culture and hospitality.
Of late our mighty Club has focussed on community youth activities and development which sees our club host School Holiday Programmes and after-school summer sports programmes, where the give back to our community which has seen our club reap rewards in our Age Grade teams in terms of team culture, player recruitment and team performances.
Player Recruitment and Development has a seen a number of our Age Grade players reach Auckland, International and New Zealand Representative Honours. Of particular note is the 2010 achievements with Joan Sione and Trish Hina selected for the 2010 Womens Rugby World Cup Team, and Liaki Moli selected in the 2010 New Zealand Under 20 World Championship Team, followed by an outstanding Campaign with the Auckland ITM Cup Team.
2011 provides plenty of opportunities for people to experience our facilities and hospitality. The 2011 Rugby Season, daily access to our clubrooms during the Rugby World Cup, Adult Friday Night Summer Touch Module, Junior Summer Athletics and Touch Rugby, Facility hire for birthdays, weddings other family functions.
