Each course is two hours and includes a small theory section for all coaches followed by a practical session.

2012 RugbySmart Coaching Workshop

All coaches and assistant coaches who are involved with teams from Secondary School Rugby upwards (Under 14 and above) are required to attend a RugbySmart Coaching Workshop every season. NZRU Policy makes this course compulsory.

RugbySmart has evolved into a very valuable resource for Rugby Coaches of all levels. While its main objective continues to be injury prevention, the 90 minute interactive workshop provides practical coaching tips and strategies based around safe technique for the contact area of Rugby.

Coaches and Assistant coaches can attend any one of the course that will be held at ARFU Clubs and Secondary Schools. Please check with you club or school administrator with regards to the timetable.

RugbySmart is Level 1 for NZRU Adult Rugby Coaching.

2012 Developing Rugby Coaches Course / Level Two Certificate

The Developing Rugby Coaches (DRC) course is a series of practical / technical Coaching Workshops split into modules, aimed at developing rugby knowledge and providing coaches with ‘best practice’ methods and how to apply that knowledge in the rugby coaching environment.
This course is run in a series of one-hour modules throughout the year.

Coaches that wish to attend DRC but do not want to complete the whole course can attend any module of their choice.

A coach will receive credit for attendance for each module (each module is approx 1 hour) attended and these details will also go into the NZRU database to confirm your attendance at portions of the course.

Attending modules will provide for individual up-skilling and we believe it is a great opportunity to enhance the skills of a coach.

To obtain the FULL Level 2 Coaching Certificate, coaches will have to attend all of the 4 scheduled evening modules along with the full day of practical coaching and will also be practically assessed by ARFU at your team’s training sessions.

Coaches will also need to complete a Rugby Laws Test and complete a coaching log / diary showing 50 hours of practical planning and coaching.

Facilitated by ARFU Coach Development Manager Bevan Cadwallader, there will be a range of specialist coaches involved in presenting the various modules to attendees.
