Board Appointment – Huriana Manuel

 Auckland Rugby

Auckland Rugby is pleased to announce the appointment of Huriana Manuel to the Auckland Rugby Board.

With former Board member Kevin Mealamu’s recent election to the New Zealand Rugby (NZR) Board, this created a vacancy within Auckland Rugby’s governance structure. The Board is delighted to welcome Huriana into this role.

Huriana brings a wealth of experience and a deep connection to the game. Her rugby credentials include:

  • Induction into the World Rugby Hall of Fame
  • Former Captain of the Black Ferns Sevens
  • Representation in both the Black Ferns Sevens and Black Ferns XV
  • Competitor at the Rio Olympics and multiple Rugby World Cup (15s and 7s) tournaments
  • Proud representative of the Auckland Storm, wearing the blue and white hoops

Off the field, Huriana has been busy in a number of roles which have further developed her leadership capabilities:

  • Entrepreneur, owning and operating successful businesses
  • Former Board member of the NZR Players Association
  • NZ Olympic Ambassador, championing sport and leadership among young New Zealanders

She will serve as a Director on the Auckland Rugby Board through until the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in December, at which point she will be eligible for election to complete the remainder of a three-year term.

Board Chair Brent Metson comments “We are all thrilled to welcome Huriana to the Auckland Rugby Union Board. Huriana brings a unique and valuable perspective that will help guide Auckland Rugby into the future. We look forward to working alongside her.”

Huriana Manuel says she is delighted to take on the role and give back to the game that’s given her so much. “It’s a privilege to return to Auckland Rugby in this capacity. Rugby has been a huge part of my life, and I’m excited about the opportunity to contribute to the game’s growth and help shape its future—especially here in Tāmaki Makaurau, where my journey began.”

Please join us in welcoming Huriana Manuel to the Auckland Rugby Board.
